November 20, 2015
Your negotiating team met with the administration from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Friday, November 20, 2015. Faculty observers included Moustapha Diaby, Evelyn Simien and Frank Mack.
We began the session indicating that we were willing to reschedule Wednesday’s cancelled session in early January. No date was set. We also discussed the need to cancel the first session with the mediator next week if we felt we were not ready for his assistance. The mediator requires a two-week cancellation notice. We would decide at the end of today’s session whether to cancel or not.
We moved to confirming the status of the proposals that were on the table.
We were able to reach a Tentative Agreement (TA) on Article 12 Personnel Files, protecting your right to review personnel files in departments and within 5 days of a request. It also protects PTR files from containing any materials referencing conduct.
The administration submitted “no change” proposals on Article 21 – Continuation of Services, Article 23 Savings Clause, & Article 17 AAUP Security and Payroll Deduction. There is a slight, but important, change proposed in Article 14 Reduction of Staff For Discontinuation of Programs and Financial Exigency.
UConn-AAUP submitted a counter-proposal on Parking, a new proposal on Appointment, Promotion, Tenure and Reappointment, an improvement to the Professional Development Fund article, and substitute proposal on our Departmental Governance proposal. Please see the links to those articles on the website.
We decided that December 7th should be used for negotiating between the parties without a mediator.
